So what makes a Techmoon abrasive waterjet special from other machine shop cutting devices? Aside from the amazing technology that runs our device, it’s the basic principles behind it: that fast-flowing water can cut both soft and hard materials including steel.
A waterjet typically exerts about 30 times the pressure of a power washer at the local carwash, which “cuts off” dirt film from an auto exterior. Waterjets that cut metal rely on a spray that gets channeled through a jeweled nozzle with at extremely high pressure –usually between 20,000 to 55,000 PSI – to keep the spray coherent and aligned.
Miners first used low pressure waterjets in the mid-nineteenth century for gold-digging in California. By 1900, many businesses were using steam and hot water jets for cleaning. And by the early 1980s, machine shops began using abrasive waterjets (also known as abrasivejets).
Today, computer-controlled waterjets like our CNC Abrasive Water Jet Cutting System can cut materials such as:
- Marble
- Stone
- Granite
- Metal
- Plastic
- Wood
Waterjets are also useful for cutting different combinations of materials up to four inches thick. This odorless, dustfree and almost heat-free process can cut something as thin as five thousandths of an inch.
Our own Techmoon waterjets are state of the art. Not only do they come with an ultra high pressure intensifier pump available in 55,000 psi or 60,000 psi. They also us a Windows-based control system that has a 19” LCD monitor. Cutting tables are freestanding and independent as we manufacture them according to client need. We even include a 500 lb. storage hopper and a 5 lb. mini hopper system for abrasives.
